A native of Argentina, Oscar Lopez-Gamundi earned his Ph.D. degree in geology at the University of Buenos Aires. Before joining Texaco (now Chevron) in 1990 he served as Assistant Professor in Sedimentology at the University of Buenos Aires, Research Associate in Macquarie University (Australia) and postdoctoral Researcher in the University of California at Santa Barbara. He spent most of his career at various high-level positions with Texaco, Chevron, and Hess.
With more than 35 years of worldwide experience in pathfinding, play trend definition, prospect generation and execution, and development he has worked in onshore and offshore exploration and development in Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, Paraguay, Uruguay, Falklands, Nicaragua, Belize, Mexico), Gulf of Mexico, Africa (Nigeria, JDZ, Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Namibia, South Africa, Chad) and New Ventures and Play and Prospect Generation worldwide (i.e. California, East and Central African Rift System, Easter Mediterranean basins, Paris basin).
In 2013, he founded P1Consultants with emphasis on applications of seismic- and log-based sequence stratigraphy and sedimentology applied to play and prospect generation and reservoir characterization.
